Why standards matter
Hemp-derived products reach consumers through a patchwork of state rules and limited federal oversight. When the law leaves gaps, the industry has to set its own standards and show that it meets them.
Labels should match the product
The Standard requires truthful labeling backed by documented testing and controls, so what the label says matches what's in the package.
Retailers need a basis for sourcing decisions
Buyers carry legal and reputational risk for what's on their shelves. Certification gives them a consistent, auditable benchmark for choosing suppliers.
Credible self-regulation builds the case for sound policy
An industry that sets and enforces its own standards shows regulators it can operate responsibly, and that record informs how hemp is regulated.
What certification verifies
Auditors assess operations against the U.S. Hemp Authority® Standard, which draws on established food, dietary supplement and agricultural requirements. Each farm and facility in the supply chain is inspected on its own.
- Quality management systems are documented, maintained and followed
- Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) apply to processing and manufacturing
- Standard operating procedures cover critical operations

Path to certification
Certification is granted after a successful independent audit and execution of the Licensing Agreement. It lasts for one certified year and is renewed by annual re-inspection.
